Do you have any tips for making comics? Like wording or inking or anything.
Haha, I’m probably the last person you need to ask; I’m afraid I’m useless as far as craft advice is concerned. All I can say is I draw in blue (or red if I’m surly) pencil and eliminate it in photoshop using the “Black and White” tool (under image->adjustments). Mostly because I hate erasing. I ink with whatever technical or ballpoint pen I can that looks good for the project, plus big old brush pens to knock out black areas. For lettering, I was just lucky enough to find a font that doesn’t clash with my style. Also, hand-drawn word balloons.
That’s it as far as craft goes, but I feel like these tidbits are more important:
-Carl Barks once said every cartoonist has 100 bad comics pages in them that need to be excised. Who knows if that’s verifiable or not, but if you do something 100 times it’s hard to imagine getting worse at it, so in short: draw a lot of comics. Learn what works for you and what doesn’t.
-Read good comics so you know what to be doing right
-Make sure you’ve got something to say
-Avoid placebo creativity, which I see a lot on tumblr (though to be fair it’s a holdover from deviantart and livejournal) - whether it’s obsessively collecting drawing tutorials you’ll never use or filling out a questionnaire in the perspective of your main character. All of that is fun but gets you thinking you’ve accomplished stuff when all that matters is what’s on the page. You can’t sell a spotify playlist or an ask blog. (Or maybe you can. People probably have, I don’t know)
-Read Kyle Baker’s “How to draw Stupid”.
I hope that helps!

How do you do your paneling for comic pages and when is there going to be new marauders?
I do them by hand - rulers & a micron pen about a size up from the one i use to draw the comic itself, basically eyeballing measurements. It’s genuinely a pain in the butt but I’m a big traditional drawing loyalist - everything in my comics aside from the tones and lettering is physical media, so I got that one sacrifice to make v(u___u)v Manga studio has a really, really convenient way of making comics panels digitally. Hopefully one day I’ll get a printer that can print off sheets of pre-paneled pages.
(i hope this answers your question, feel free to elaborate if i missed anything)
And regarding Marauder: I can’t say for sure. This might be silly but I’ve been hesitant to draw stuff with Guns and Violence since i’ve seen too much of it in the world lately, but I have been planning out a return to the story. When I do it will probably be a bit of a different thing, sort of a soft reboot, i don’t know. (a tacky thing to say about something 21 pages in, no doubt!)
If everything turns out right though you’ll see more comics with the shooty pointy-nose guy and his friends before winter, though.
my saturdays have been following a pattern for the past
forever little while
comics about the ubiquitous guy who likes the “fuck the system” look but butts in whenever the people the system has actually fucked dare to point out there’s a pattern
